Should RIM Sponsor the U.S. National Texting Competition?
The U.S. National Texting Competition will be starting today in New York where the fastest texters in the United Sates are facing off. BlackBerry smartphones are known for their quick and easy use for pushing out emails, messages, etc due to their exceptional keyboard designs. However, the U.S. National Texting Competition has one slight problem, it is sponsored by LG Electronics.
The competition consists of 11 contestants, who will battle it out today in Times Square. The winner gets $50,000 (€40,000). Competitors range from 16 to 24 years old. Last year’s champion Austin Weirschke is coming back to defend his title.
Three skills are tested: speed, accuracy and dexterity. There are three rounds to the competition: texting while blind-folded, texting with hands behind their backs and Text Blitz, where phrases are shown to the contestants for a length of time and they have to copy them as fast as they can.
It would seem like a killer publicity stunt if some of the competitors showed up with BlackBerry devices to battle against the LG devices. Perhaps people would then see how fast a user can text/type on the amazing keyboards BlackBerry users have come to love. Do you think RIM should get in the game?
